Professor Chiu completed his MD degree at Taipei Medical University in 1995 and later pursued a Ph.D. in Preventive Medicine at the College of Public Health, National Taiwan University, graduating in 2010. Presently, he holds the esteemed position of clinical professor at the College of Medicine, National Taiwan University, where he also serves as attending staff, chief of the Health Management Center, and chief of the Department of Integrated Diagnostics and Therapeutics at National Taiwan University Hospital.

Since 2015, Professor Chiu has been at the helm of the Taiwan Colorectal Cancer Screening Program and the Joint Program of Colonoscopy Quality Assurance Program. His unwavering dedication to education and research in the field of colonoscopy practice and colorectal cancer screening has garnered recognition both in Taiwan and internationally. He has been invited to numerous prestigious conferences and live demonstration courses abroad to share his expertise in colorectal cancer screening, as well as advanced colonoscopy therapeutic techniques like EMR or ESD. His outstanding research contributions have earned him several accolades, including distinguished abstract awards at Digestive Disease Week in 2015, 2016, and 2020, as well as plenary session awards in 2012 and 2021. In 2022, he received the Research Excellence Award from National Taiwan University Hospital, followed by another Research Excellence Award from the National Council of Science and Technology in 2023. In 2018, the Taiwanese government honored him with the Cancer Vanguard Award in recognition of his remarkable contributions to colorectal cancer screening initiatives.

Professor Chiu currently holds key positions in various professional organizations. Since 2018, he has served as the secretary-general of the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan (GEST). Since 2021, he has assumed the role of Asian regional chair of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) CRC Screening Committee. Additionally, he contributes as an associate editor for Digestive Endoscopy and as deputy editor for the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
